Theinformationexplosionandeducationnotonlybroadenedpeople'shorizons,butalsoenrichedtheirlies.ThegovernmentistakingdefinitestepstoreformtheeducationsystemofTaiwanastheyear2000approaches,butthishasalsoraisedalotofquestions.Manypeoplereceivehighereducation,buttheydon'tcomprehendthetruemeaningofeducation.Withincreasingnumbersofviolentincidentsoccurringinschoolsandcriminalgangsposingathreattocampuslife,weneedtoaddresstheseimmediateproblemsasweimproveoureducationalsystem.Educationenablesourcountrygainafootholdintheworld,andnocountrycanaffordtoneglecteducation.Itdevelopsthecharacterandmentalityofitspeople.TheR.O.Cgovernmenthasofferedfreeandcompulsoryeducationsince1968tohelpenableourcitizenstokeepupwithtimes.Andyet,thereisnodenyingthefactthatschoolsinTaiwanarestillfocusedonpassingexams,soanalyticalthinkingandpracticalapplicationsgetlittleornoemphasis.Inrecentyears,theMinistryofEducationhascarriedoutamultiple-choiceentranceexampolicywhichissuitableforallkindsofstudentsinschool.Educationneedstobelivenedupandnotjustfocusonsimplypassingexamsandgettinggoodgrades.Ourauthoritiesshouldbeconcernedwithmakingclearplanstoreformandachievethesegoalsinfuture.
